BSP nominee attacked in Ambala Cantt, injured

BSP candidate from Ambala Cantonment Rajesh Chanaliya and his driver were allegedly attacked by some unidentified persons with sharp weapons near Ward No. 4 in the Army area here today.

Rajesh alleged that he was on his way towards his party office after distributing publicity material among his supporters. Meanwhile, three men attacked his car in which he received injuries on his back. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment.

After getting stitches on his back, Rajesh said: “I thought the person wanted to talk to me. So I asked the driver to stop the car, but they attacked me. I never thought I will be attacked as I have no enmity with anyone. The suspects were wearing helmets so I couldn’t see their faces.”

Rajesh’s daughter said it was a lapse on part of the police as the security person was not deployed on time.

Car driver Jasbir Singh said: “One of the attackers damaged the front windshield with a brick. Another person hit Rajesh with a sword on his hand and back.”

After getting information, SP Abhishek Jorwal also reached the spot.

The SP said Rajesh told that he was on his way when suspects on two motorcycles came near his car. While one of the suspects signalled to stop the car, other two attacked them.

The security guard was unwell following which the candidate relieved him. He informed the security branch about the guard today, following which another gunman was sent. The gunman could not join him as the candidate had already left for canvassing.
