Second-half goals by Gobindash and Sabit helped Chandigarh register a 2-0 win over Bihar in the final of the 64th National School U-17 Games for Football, which concluded in Jammu recently.
After a goalless first-half, Chandigarh boys upped the ante and took the lead through Gobindash in the 64th minute, and four minutes later, Sabit doubled their tally.
Chandigarh backline then held the fort for the remaining time to ensure an easy win for the side.
Interestingly, nine players of the Chandigarh Football Academy were part of the Chandigarh’s playing squad.
“It was a happy moment for us and especially for our academy. The city boys have lifted the title after wait of five long years,” said coach Sandeep Singh.
The city boys remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and thrashed Assam (3-0), West Bengal (4-0) and Tripura (5-4) en route the final.
In the group stage, they drubbed Telangana 7-0, Puducherry 6-0 and Madhya Pradesh 1-0, while they played a goalless draw against Uttarakhand.
