Mayor Davesh Moudgil inaugurated a two-day Teej festival at Mani Majra here on Saturday.

KK Yadav, Commissioner; Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Senior Deputy Mayor; Vinod Kumar Aggarwal, Deputy Mayor; Manoj Bansal, Chief Engineer; NP Sharma, SE, B&R; Shipra Bansal, chairperson, Arts, Sports & Culture Committee; Jagtar Singh Jagga, area councillor; other councillors, MC officers and local residents were present on the occasion.

While addressing the audience, the Mayor said Teej is celebrated as a festival for women, the victory of wife’s love and devotion towards her husband. It is also an occasion for married women to visit their parents and return with gifts for their in-laws and spouse. Teej, therefore, provides an opportunity to renew family bonds.

Teej festival, which marks the advent of the monsoon season, celebrates a break from the sweltering heat, said the Mayor.

This time, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has decorated the Shivalik Garden with village profile by making “Swachh Gaon” - a clean village theme.

Shipra Bansal, chairperson, Arts, Sports & Culture Committee, MC, said mehandi stalls, phulkari and painting exhibitions and folk dances and songs had been included in the festival. On August 12,

MP Kirron Kher would be the chief guest of  the cultural evening. Magic shows and puppet shows among other events would be held throughout the day on Sunday.

She said various programmes, including solo and group folk song, Giddha and performances by MC employees and NZCC artists, would be organised on Sunday.
