Nabha, June 14

Members of the rural wing of the Congress in this block burnt the effigy of the Modi government at Dhingi and Dulladi villages in protest against the rising fuel prices and anti-people policies of the Central Government.

Addressing the protesters, Balwinder Singh Bittu, president, Nabha Block (Rural), said it was becoming difficult for the common man to make both ends meet in view of the rising prices of essential commodities.

He said the Modi government had failed to keep inflation under control and added that the rising fuel prices were also responsible for the increasing prices of the essential commodities.

Bittu said during former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s rule, the petrol was selling at Rs 73 per litre while the international price of petrol per barrel was around $140.

He said even though the prices of petrol at the international level had fallen to $70, the Modi government was selling the same at Rs 76 per litre.

He said his party had decided to hold protest

rallies in villages across the state on daily basis and under the directions of PPCC president Sunil Jakhar, protests would be held in 166 villages of this block in the coming days. He also added that diesel was selling at Rs 8,100 per drum while the same was available to the farmers at Rs 13,890.
