Glut-like situation in grain markets

Farmers and commission agents here are a harried lot as there are reports of glut-like situation in grain markets due to non-lifting of paddy and lack of storage space.

Rajesh Sood, president of an arhtiya association, said no farmer could unload his trolley filled with paddy in the market on Monday. He said rain forecast by the meteorological department in the coming days was also worrying farmers and commission agents.

Meanwhile, inspector Bhagnanjit of Pungrain said the contractor had given them assurance that he would increase vehicles for paddy lifting from Tuesday. He said if he failed to make proper arrangements, they would ask commission agents to arrange private vehicles for the purpose. — OC
