Bring cycle tracks to use

ABHINAV MALHOTRA:Chandigarh boasts about having finest cycle tracks in the country.

Chandigarh boasts about having finest cycle tracks in the country. In fact, the city is a paradise for cyclists, but most of them continue to be ignorant about the boon that the city is for them. A number of people can be seen avoiding the tracks and cycling on roads meant for motorised vehicles, which is unsafe for both cyclists and motorists. There is an urgent need for strictness and spreading more awareness in this regard.

Maintain statues of legends

Why are the statues installed in the memory of legends not maintained? The plight of statues at several junctions, in every city, to cherish the personalities can give chills down the spine. The statues are not maintained — except in some big and metro cities. Parts of the statues tend to be broken and are filled with the excreta of birds. Garbage littered around the statues taint the picture further. The government should allocate resources for the maintenance of these statues. The government should follow the teachings preached by legends and preserve their legacy. The onus to maintain these statues lies on government, authorities and citizens.

Exorbitant parking fee

Parking charges in the UT have been revised recently without any significant improvement in the parking facilities. Providing residents with parking facility is the responsibility of the government and to charge exorbitantly is unjustified. The government should facilitate citizens not burden them.
