Illegal toilet near Badal’s house being razed

CHANDIGARH: A day after construction of a toilet in the green belt abutting a house belonging to the family of former Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal in Sector 9 here was highlighted in these columns, demolition of the structure began on Monday.

A day after construction of a toilet in the green belt abutting a house belonging to the family of former Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal in Sector 9 here was highlighted in these columns, demolition of the structure began on Monday.

Labourers engaged for the construction of the toilet today started dismantling the incomplete structure. They said they were directed by their contractor to dismantle the construction made so far.

Teams of the Estate Office and the MC had stopped the construction of the toilet yesterday when Chandigarh Tribune brought the matter into the notice of senior officials of the UT Administration and the MC.

According to law, no construction on government land, neighbourhood park and green belt can be done without obtaining approval from the office of the the Chief Architect, UT.
