In draw of lots, 753 allotted plots at IT City in Mohali

In a draw of lots, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) allotted 753 residential plots at IT City on Thursday. A total of 16,274 persons had applied for the plots.

The draw of lots was held opposite PUDA Bhawan. The draw started at 10.30 am and concluded in the evening.

As many as 676 plots were allotted the applicants in the preferential category, which included senior citizens and women. The remaining plots were allotted to those belonging to the general category.

Some people belonging to the general category expressed resentment, saying they were not given desired opportunity. They also raised slogans against the authorities before leaving the venue.

Notably, the preference was given to senior citizens followed by women applicants, who have been residents of Punjab for the past five years.

A condition was laid in the scheme that the applicants interested in availing the preferential treatment should not own any plot/house anywhere in country. Those belonging to the preferential category are barred from transferring/ selling the plot for a period of five years from the date of the issue of the Letter of Intent.

Meanwhile, live streaming of the whole process was done on Facebook. Besides, information of successful allottees was displayed on two giant LED screens installed at the venue.

The result of the draw will be uploaded on the website, gmada.gov.in, by Friday evening. Successful applicants will have to submit required documents. The Letter of Intent will be issued to the allottees in first week of August. The possession of plots will be given by the year-end.
