Chandigarh, October 17

With the city markets witnessing huge rush on Dhanteras, traffic jams were ubiquitous in several sectors even as cops were deployed near markets.

Roads remained busy since afternoon. Wrongly-parked vehicles only added to the chaos. With parking lots almost full, visitors to the markets parked their vehicles on the roadside. Vehicular traffic on the city roads increased by the evening.

Areas that saw snarl-ups were Sector 9, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 35, 44 etc.  While tow vans of the traffic police took away several vehicles, cops clamped a large number of vehicles during the day.

Shashank Anand, SSP (Traffic), said an intensive drive against wrong parking would continue for the next two days.

“Traffic cops will be deployed at various places to ensure residents faced least inconvenience during the festive season,” said an official.  — TNS
