AMBALA: The police have booked 17 people for allegedly attacking a newly- wedded couple in Dadupur village of Barara today. The suspects were the kin of a woman who recently got married against the wishes of her family members.

The police have booked 17 people for allegedly attacking a newly- wedded couple in Dadupur village of Barara today.

The suspects were the kin of a woman who recently got married against the wishes of her family members.

The suspects have been identified as Gurmeet, Suresh, Dharamvir, Ravi, Mangu, Naresh, Jony, Goldy, Rajat, Jogi, Vikas, Rajni, Gulzaro, Shero, Gurmano, Charanjit and Gita.

In her complaint to police, Meena Rani (28), alleged that she got married to Satish Kumar on January 9 this year but her parents and family members were not happy. The court had also provided security to the couple. She said they began living in Dadupur village in April and on Monday, around 5.15 pm, as the duo were standing in the street. Gurmeet, Suresh, Dharamvir, Ravi, Mangu, Naresh, Jony, Goldy, Rajat, Jogi and Vikas started pelting bricks at them while Rajni, Gulzaro, Shero, Gurmano, Charanjit, Rajkumar and Gita abused them.

Gurmeet, complainant’s brother, was nabbed by ESI Mahinder and handed over to the police.

Satish, who sustained injuries in the incident, was taken to CHC Mullana from where he was referred to the Civil Hospital, Ambala City. Later, Satihs was referred to PGI, Chandigarh.

A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 148, 149, 323, 307, 325, 506 of the IPC at Barara police station.
