As many as 110 members of the Himachal Pensioners’ Welfare Association, Panchkula, attended a talk on ‘How to avoid lung problems’ at a private hospital here today.
Dr Sunny Virdi Consultant-Pulmonology, Ojas Hospital, gave tips on how to deal with the chronic lungs problems, which could be life threatening if not treated on time. He said in India, around 5.50 lakh people die of the disease. He said Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) was preventable and treatable disease, but without any permanent cure. “It is primarily caused by smoking ‘bidi’, cigarette chewing tobacco, besides air pollution,” he said.
