Defence points to ‘delay’ in lodging FIR

The defence counsel today argued that there was a 10-hour delay in lodging of the FIR in the murder case of Akansh Sen, a nephew of former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

As per the counsel, the FIR was lodged on February 7, 2017, at 3:30 pm, whereas the victim was admitted to the hospital during morning time.

It was further contended by advocate Manjit Singh that ASI Birender Singh, during his examination-in-chief told the court that he, along with head constable Dalip Singh, constable Khushi Mohammad, lady constable Sukhwinder Kaur and ASI Gurdeep Singh, went to the PGI trauma ward where Akansh Sen was found admitted in a critical condition.

However, in the examination-in-chief recorded later on, ASI Birender Singh told the court that the complaint was written and endorsed by head constable Hawa Singh, who was never part of the team accompanying the ASI, as argued by the defence counsel.

Sen was run over by a BMW car allegedly by Harmehtab Singh and Balraj Randhawa in February 2017.

Harmehtab had been arrested and is facing trial under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC in the court ADJ Rajeev Goyal.
