Newly launched buses of the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) will now be equipped with GPS devices to check consumption of fuel. PRTC chairman KK Sharma today inspected its control room for the same.

The corporation is installing the devices in 100 newly launched self-owned buses and other 143 buses running under the kilometer scheme, which was launched in 2017. KK Sharma said the devices would be linked to portals which will be monitored at bus stands.

“We will link the GPS devices to the information portals at bus stands. This will also provide information regarding the condition of all buses,” Sharma said.

Officials said the devices had already been fitted in 50 buses that were already plying on roads. “Installation of the devices will provide all information regarding the real condition of buses, change of routes and actual consumption of fuel by them. We will be able to put a check on excessive consumption and theft of oil,” they said.

The corporation had recently rolled out its second lot of 25 self-owned buses of the total 100 buses to replace those buses which have outlived their life.
