Apparently facing non-cooperation from her staff in dealing with “addict” employees, Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Secretary Hargunjit Kaur has vowed to end the menace, if any, from the office premises here.

Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, Hargunjit Kaur, who had sought a report about “addict” employees from department heads, said only two heads had submitted their report. The rest of them are yet to respond even though around two months have elapsed since the circular was issued. The deadline for submitting the report was June 1, which was later extended to June 11.

“I will take the issue to its logical conclusion,” said the Secretary on Tuesday.

The Secretary said she could not pursue the issue properly as supplementary exams had begun and the staff, too, were a bit non-cooperative on the issue. “However, I am not going to leave it,” said Hargunjit Kaur. She said following Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s instructions to the state employees to undergo dope test, the board employees would also be asked to do so.

Certain department heads and the Punjab School Education Board Employees’ Union had reacted sharply while condemning the Secretary’s initiative. The circular was issued after she noticed some used syringes and alcohol bottles in washrooms of the office. The union office-bearers had responded by saying that a large number of visitors came to the office everyday for their works so it couldn’t be proven that the syringes and bottles were being dumped by employees.
