Private schools are against the implementation of the Punjab Regulation of Fee of Unaided Educational Institutions Act, which limits fee hike to 8 per cent per year, for 2018-19 session. However, the Education Department has been saying that it would be implemented from this session only.

“The Act will soon be sent to us by the Centre and we will notifiy it immediately,” said Education Secretary BL Sharma. He added, “We will see implications of the Act later.”

In a letter to the Education Secretary and Direction School Education (DSE), HS Mamik, the president of Independent Schools Association (ISA), said, “It may be pointed out that all revision in the fee structure for session 2018-19 has been announced and fee has been collected. We request that there be no interference in this issue for 2018-19.”

He added, “If any new instructions regarding fee regulation to be introduced, the same be made effective from 2019-20,” he said.

He added,”Any tempering with fee structures at the last stage would bring great consternation and loss to the school and parents. All contracts have been finalised and paid for.”

The private schools this year have hiked their fee by 10-12 per cent.
