Road accident claims life of Mohali DC office employee

MOHALI: A 48-year-old employee of the Mohali DC office died in a road accident after his scooter was hit by a tipper in Sector 80 here today.

A 48-year-old employee of the Mohali DC office died in a road accident after his scooter was hit by a tipper in Sector 80 here today. The victim has been identified as Charanjit Singh, a resident of Shamsher Nagar, Sirhind.

Charanjit Singh was posted in the DC office as a junior assistant. He was shifted to a hospital in Sohana where doctors declared him brought dead.

Staff members of the DC office alleged that the PCR did not reach the spot despite making several calls at 100 number. “Even cops from the area police station reached the spot after a long time. Some passerby shifted the victim to a hospital,” alleged the colleagues of the victim.

Officials of the Phase 8 police station and the Sohana police station had some jurisdiction issue, which could be resolved after more than two hours.

The victim’s colleagues said Charanjit Singh was busy in the preparations for his elder son’s marriage, which was scheduled to take place next month.

Meanwhile, the tipper driver, Amritpal Singh, was caught by passersby. Later, he was handed over to the police. A case has been registered against Amritpal under Sections 279, 304A and 427 of the IPC at the Sohana police station here.
