In the Rs 2.5 lakh gunpoint robbery at a showroom in Sector 16 two days ago, the police recovered owner’s mobile phone from the dump in the area. Meanwhile, the police are checking the CCTV footage of cameras installed in the market area to find the route used by robbers to flee after committing the crime.

The Sector 26 crime branch in-charge, Nirmal Singh, said, “As per initial investigation in the case we have checked some CCTV footages in which robbers are wearing helmets. We came to know through the CCTV recording that the robbers had come on an Activa and fled from Buddanpur village towards Chandigarh from the Mauli Jagran side.”

Armed robbers looted Rs 2.5 lakh cash after holding showroom owner Hemant and workers hostage in Sector 16 on Saturday night. Hemant, owner of Madras General Store, is nephew of senior BJP leader Sham Lal Bansal. The robbers looted cash at gunpoint while threatening Hemant and workers to shoot them if they raised their voice.

Later, Hemant managed to open showroom shutter and raised an alarm besides informing the police, which reached the spot immediately.

Senior police officials said they would coordinate with the Chandigarh Police and check CCTV footage on the Mauli Jagran-Chandigarh route through which the robbers escaped.

The crime branch teams along with the Sector 14 police station team were probing the case, police officials added.
