CHANDIGARH:A couple and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from an 84-year-old man, threatening to implicate him in molestation case.

A couple and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from an 84-year-old man, threatening to implicate him in molestation case. The man, having already paid Rs 20,000 to them,  informed the police.

Sudershan Lal of Sector 44, reported that one of the suspects, Sukhwinder Kaur (27), approached him for a room on rent at his house on April 15.

He said Sukhwinder claimed she was a resident of Kharar and had to commute to Sector 34 daily.. She wanted a room on rent in Sector 44. 

After negotiations, the monthly rent was fixed at 

Rs 4,000. She returned the following day, stayed for the night and left on April 17 morning,  claiming she would get her parents as well. 

“Sukhwinder returned with Tilak Raj (62) and Geeta (47), whom she introduced as her parents. They started threatening the complainant, alleging he had molested their daughter,” sources said. 

 They also threatened him that they would upload his pictures on the social media. “The suspects demanded Rs 2 lakh from to settle the issue. He paid the first instalment of Rs 20,000,” the police said.

He was supposed to pay the second instalment near the Sector 34 gurdwara, but he decided to approach the police. The police laid a trap and arrested the suspects.

 A case under Section 384 (punishment for extortion) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC has been registered against them at the Sector 34 police station. They have been remanded in judicial custody.
