Chandigarh, December 8

A head constable and a constable of the UT police were reportedly thrashed by two youths at the Shastri Nagar light point this evening.

Passersby nabbed the duo and thrashed them before handing them over to the police.

Satish Kumar, DSP (East), said a complaint was received from a girl against Sahil, who owns a company at the IT Park, alleging that he sexually exploited her.

Following the complaint, two police personnel - head constable Shubhkaran and constable Manoj - today went to the company at IT Park to bring the accused to the police station.

Sources said the accused, Sahil, and another youth, Soumil, made the policemen sit in their BMW car and drove towards Kishangarh instead of the police station.

The accused then allegedly thrashed the two cops near the Shastri Nagar light point. Later, the policemen also thrashed the duo.

Passersby, who saw the cops being thrashed, gathered at the spot and they also thrashed the accused.

Both accused were brought to the IT Park police station and a case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from his duty), 365 (kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been registered against both the accused and investigation initiated. Both accused were arrested.

The DSP said the allegations levelled against Sahil by the girl were being verified. “We are investigating the complaint,” he said.
