UNESCO selects Prof Archana on panel for study

CHANDIGARH: Prof Archana R Singh, chairperson of the School of Communication Studies, Panjab University (PU), has been selected as a part of the peer reviewer panel for a new study commissioned by UNESCO titled, “Youth and Violent Extremism on Social Media: Mapping the Research”.

Prof Archana R Singh, chairperson of the School of Communication Studies, Panjab University (PU), has been selected as a part of the peer reviewer panel for a new study commissioned by UNESCO titled, “Youth and Violent Extremism on Social Media: Mapping the Research”.

It is being conducted by Séraphin Alava, Divina Frau-Meigs, Ghayda Hassan, Hasna Hussein and Yuanyuan Wei. Prof Singh is the only member of the reviewers’ panel from India. Prof Singh contributed towards finalising the draft of the study and suggested improvements. UNESCO acknowledged her contributions.

The study outlines the role played by social media in radicalisation of youth the world over. It also talks about online censorship, surveillance, counter-speech and discusses the function of Internet.
