Unknown person booked for furniture market fire

CHANDIGARH: The police have registered a case against an unknown person for setting a shop on fire at the furniture market on the road separating Sector 53 and 54.

The police have registered a case against an unknown person for setting a shop on fire at the furniture market on the road separating Sector 53 and 54.

According to the police, the complainant, Rajiv Bhandari, owner of Avtar Furniture, alleged that an unknown persons set one of the shops on fire following which the fire spread to other shops.

As many as 25 furniture shops were gutted in the fire on December 11, leading to a loss of several crores of rupees.

A police official said shop owners had claimed that someone had deliberately set a shop on fire, which led to the incident.

Acting on the complaint, a case under Section 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc) of the IPC has been registered against an unknown person at the Sector 39 police station. — TNS
