Vanisha, Gurnoor bag twin swimming gold

CHANDIGARH:Vanisha Bashambu and Gurnoor Kaur claimed two gold medals each in the ongoing inter-school swimming championship here today.

Vanisha Bashambu and Gurnoor Kaur claimed two gold medals each in the ongoing inter-school swimming championship here today.

Vanisha of Ryan International School (Sector 48) won the laurels in the U-14 age category, while Gurnoor of KBDAV School (Sector 7) achieved her medals in the U-17 category.

Vanisha won her first gold in the 50m backstroke category with a timing of 37.18 seconds. Sanchi Bhargava of Chitkara International School (Sector 14) finished second in 41.28s, while Japman Kaur Aneja of Carmel Convent School (Sector 9) claimed third position in 43.10s. Amreen Sandhu of Strawberry Fields High School (Sector 26) finished fourth by clocking 45.56s. 

In the 50m breaststroke event, Vanisha (42.42s) and Sanchi (42.78s) claimed the top two positions, while Tista Tewani of Delhi Public School (Sector 40) finished third by clocking 43.13s. Prannya Nayyar of Strawberry Fields School claimed fourth position in 49.44s.

Gurnoor, meanwhile, won her first gold medal in the 50m backstroke with a timing of 38.58s. She was closely followed by Manasvni Dwivedi (36.86s) of Delhi Public School at second spot. Saatchi Sharma of St Anne's School (Sector 32) claimed the third position in 42.03s and Kirti Joshi of St Xavier's School (Sector 44) claimed fourth spot in 43.65s. 

Gurnoor also won the 50m breaststroke gold by clocking 42.37s, followed by Manasvni (44.31s) for silver and Bhargvi (48.71s) of St Xavier's School for bronze. Saatchi (50.67s) finished fourth. 

In the boys' U-17 category, Dhruv Singh Attri of Delhi Public School won the 200m freestyle gold in 2m 15.70s. Akshaj of Vivek High School (Sector 38) claimed the second position in 2:19.78s and Yatharth Rawat of St John's High School (Sector 26) finished third with a timing of 2:21.38s. Rakshak Singh Thakur of Ryan International School finished fourth in 2:31.10s.
