A woman in her 30s was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room at Baltana here today.

The victim, identified as Priyanka, a resident of Gurugram, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the hotel room in Baltana. After initial investigations, the police suspected it to be a case of suicide, but it would be confirmed after thorough investigation.

According to the police, the woman, along with her husband, came to Zirakpur on November 11. Since then, they were staying in the hotel.

According to hotel staff, the victim’s husband was seen leaving the hotel on Thursday evening for some work. On Friday morning, the hotel manager got a call from the victim’s husband that Priyanka is not taking his calls and asked the staff to check the room.

The hotel staff knocked on the door of the room, but they did not get any response. The staff again tried to contact her after some time, but to no avail. Later, they informed the police. The police broke open the door and found the girl hanging from a ceiling fan.

Bhinder Singh, in-charge of the Baltana police post, said: “After initial investigations, we suspect it to be a case of suicide, but it will be confirmed after a thorough investigation. We have sent the body  for autopsy”. He said the next course of action would be taken after investigations were over and recording the statements of the victim’s family members. — OC
