New Delhi, June 20

The Union Government is planning to develop greenfield city with smart city features over 240 acres of land at Ghitorni in the national Capital, sources said.

The land, which belongs to Central Public Works Department (CPWD), has been lying vacant at Ghitorni since 1971. Rajiv Gauba, Secretary, Urban Development, today held discussions with senior officials of the CPWD and National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd (NBCC) regarding this new project, the sources said.

According to the sources, the project, estimated to cost over Rs 15,000 crore is proposed to be jointly developed by the CPWD and the NBCC on self-financing basis with no cost to the government. It is proposed to build about 6,500 residential units of type-II to type-VIII under general pool residential accommodation (GPRA) in view of substantial gap between demand and supply.

The CPWD would undertake construction of the GPRA houses besides office space for public sector agencies while the NBCC would build about 500 houses to be sold to others besides developing substantial office and commercial space for sale for resource mobilization for financing the project.

The proposed mini-city would be equipped with all required urban infrastructure, green sustainable technology and smart solutions as per the smart city norms. It will have water and waste management with dual piping system, rain water harvesting system, solar energy and smart metering, multi-modal transit integration system, security system, Wi-Fi, Intelligent building management system, supervisory control and data acquisition management, etc.
