Karan Johar’s ‘An Unsuitable Boy’, Twinkle Khanna’s ‘Mrs Funny Bones’, Shatrughan Sinha’s biography and other books on and by Bollywood celebrities are selling like hot cakes at the ongoing New Delhi World Book Fair.

Karan Johar’s autobiography ‘An Unsuitable Boy’ which has already made headlines for the revelations he made about his sexuality and fall out with one-time good friend Kajol, is among the top-sellers at the Penguin India stall at the fair here.

According to Nandan Jha, Vice president, Product and Sales at Penguin Random House India, the publishing house is faring “exceptionally well” this year, with the business having witnessed a “20 per cent” hike from last year.

“The bookfair used to be held in February until a couple of years ago and this move into January has actually helped the sales due to extended winter break in schools, and festivals. Some of the top sellers at our stall include Karan Johar’s ‘An Unsuitable Boy’ and Twinkle Khanna’s ‘Mrs Funnybones’,” he said.

Jha said while both Indian and international writing were “selling well”, they will know the exact split only “once the fair is over and we have analysed the sales”.

Twinkle Khanna’s latest, “The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad’ which is a collection of short stories is also a favourite at the Hachette stall at the fair, which is also witnessing the sale of master blaster’s autobiograghpy, ‘Sachin Tendulkar: Playing It My Way’ in huge numbers.

At Om Book Shops which has on offer a couple of celebrity books like ‘Shammi Kapoor: The Game Changer’ by Rauf Ahmed and ‘Mohammed Rafi: Golden Voice of the Silver Screen’ by Sujata Dev, it is actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha’s biography, ‘Anything But Khamosh: The Shatrughan Sinha Biography’ that is selling the most.

“It is probably because he is both an actor and politician, and people feel that Sinha will be able to  talk about both the worlds in the book,” Ashutosh Kumar from the stall said.

Other books from the big screen at the stall include ‘Freeze Frame’ by Anupama Chopra, ‘Not Just Bollywood: Directors Speak’ by Tula Goenka and ‘Housefull:The Golden Age of Hindi Cinema’ edited by Ziya Us Aslam among others. The nine-day-long fair is set to conclude on January 15. — PTI
