New Delhi, February 15

The traffic police failing to control and eliminate jams are now planning to introduce ‘Intelligent Traffic Management System’ to manage traffic.

A hefty budget of Rs 441 cr has been made and sent to the Union government for the purpose. On the issue the Special CP Traffic Police, Ajay Kashayp, said that the project will be started with installation of CCTV cameras and other utilities to fight snarls and check violations on the main roads.

According to the Special CP Traffic, every crossing will be installed with a surveillance camera. These cameras will not only keep an eye on the vehicle pressure but will also see the driver’s behaviour and violation of traffic rules. The police have identified 150 points where traffic chaos has crossed its limits.

Encroachment, vehicular pressure, wrong and illegal parking, rain and fog are the main cause of snarls. But after the intelligent traffic management system is enforced, there will be some relief from traffic jams.

The following tools will help get rid of traffic jams: surveillance camera to keep eye on traffic violation and behaviour of drivers on crossings; variable message signboard; centralised command and control room.
