Jalandhar, May 3

The Jalandhar Commissionerate has managed to nab three persons involved in yesterday’s assault on GRP head constable. The policeman was assaulted by over a dozen persons on Saturday while he was confronting some youths for harassing his daughter.

Those arrested are a 16-year-old boy of Model Town, his father Gurnam Singh alias Bunty Bajwa and the minor’s friend, Satinderpal Singh alias Lucky Oberoi of GTB Nagar.

They were rounded up by the police from different locations in the wee hours today. Harpreet Singh Mander, ADCP-II, said one of the accused, Laddi Bajwa, who is Bunty Bajwa’s brother, is still at large and raids are being conducted to nab him.

The trio was produced in the court of Duty Magistrate Harpreet Singh, who sent the minor to a juvenile protection home and others in a two-day police remand. The minor boy is a student of a private college here.

Meanwhile, due to the critical state of head constable Gurmeet Singh, his statement is yet to be recorded by the police and even his daughter is yet to register her official statement. On the complaint of the victim’s cousin, a case under Sections 307, 323, 325, 148, 149 and 354 (assault and criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC has been registered against the accused at Model Town police station.

Police sources said the police had also named some more accused in the case but had refused to divulge their names before their arrest.
