31 elderly persons leave for Gangotri

MUSSOORIE: Around 31 pilgrims were flagged off by Sandeep Sahni, member of the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board for the Gangotri shrine in Uttarkashi district, from Mussoorie under the “Mere Buzurg Mere Teerth” programme being run by the government for senior citizens in the state recently.

Around 31 pilgrims were flagged off by Sandeep Sahni, member of the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board for the Gangotri shrine in Uttarkashi district, from Mussoorie under the “Mere Buzurg Mere Teerth” programme being run by the government for senior citizens in the state recently.

Tourism official Sushma Sharma said the pilgrims included 14 women and 17 men. They were served breakfast before being flagged off and would stay at the government’s expense at various shelters created at Raithal village in Uttarkashi and other places on their pilgrimage.

Sandeep Sahni said this was a unique project that allowed senior citizens to offer prayers at major religious destinations of the state.
