Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Abhay Singh Chautala has accused the state government of spying on his activities a day after Haryana Health Minister made similar allegations.

Accusing the Manohar Lal Khattar government of tabs on him, Chautala, secretary general of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) said on Saturday: "My phones are being tapped...I am being spied on."

He also referred to health minister Vij's claims, stating it was unfortunate that the chief minister did trust in his own colleague.

He accused the state government of emulating the previous Congress government under Bhupinder Singh Hooda of misusing its position by getting the state’s CID to spy on opposition leaders.

"Today in Haryana there is not a single leader in the opposition who is not being spied on," he said.

Describing Vij as the "most honest" minister in the government, the opposition leader said if Khattar had no faith on a person like Vij he should dismiss him.

"It (spying on a cabinet-rank minister) is a serious issue," he said, adding that there were frequent reports of difference of opinion between Khattar and some of his ministers since the government first assumed power.

On Friday, Vij claimed he caught a CID officer spying outside his office, although the state DGP clarified that policemen were routinely deployed for the safety of Ministers.

Vij’s insistence that he was being spied on has led to an inquiry into the incident. A report has to be submitted to IGP (Security) by Monday. — PTI
