City records lowest July rainfall in 5 years

CHANDIGARH:The city has received the lowest rainfall in the month of July this year as compared to the last five years.

The city has received the lowest rainfall in the month of July this year as compared to the last five years. As per the Met Department, the average rainfall which the city used to receive in July was 147 mm, while this year, only 141.2 mm of rainfall has been received till date. The Met recorded 34.8 mm of rainfall today in the city. 

Records of the Met Department revealed that the highest rainfall in the month of July was received in 2012 which touched the figure of 275.1 mm while it was the lowest in 2016.

Director, Met Department, Surinder Pal Singh said it was Chandigarh that received less than average rainfall in July whereas the other parts of the region had received sufficient rain. 

Besides, the issue of isolated rain in the city is also one of the concerns of the department, he said. The pattern of rainfall in the city had changed drastically this year.

As per the Met Department forecast, rain was expected in the city for the next three days due to which the day and night temperature is expected to fall. The maximum temperature expected on Friday will be 32° Celsius and minimum temperature 26° Celsius. On Thursday, the Met recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6 ° Celsius, which is two notches below the normal and minimum temperature at 26.8° Celsius, which is three notches above normal.
