Sirsa, January 31

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Balwant Singh today restrained Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) from announcing the results of elections to the university court.

The university court along with executive council (EC) went to polls today.

Prof Surinder Kundu challenged the elections on the grounds that the poll should have been held under the old electoral process initiated a few months earlier.

The next hearing in the case is on February 16.

Registrar Manoj Siwach, who was the returning officer for the two elections, said though the court pertained to the elections to the university court, the authorities had sealed the votes polled for the EC due to lack of clarity of the order initially.

He said 51 out of 52 teachers eligible to cast their votes for the two elections exercised their right to franchise.

The EC comprises two members and one of them must be an associate professors. Abhay Singh Godara and Dilbag Singh, both associate professors, and Surinder Kundu, Ishwar Singh Malik and Ranjit Kaur, all assistant professors, are in the fray.

As for the university court, two members are to be elected from associate professors. Since Rajbir Singh Dalal and DP Warne, both associate professors, have filed their nominations, their election is a foregone conclusion subject to the court decision.
