Grandson unveils Shastri’s statue in Moga village

MOGA: Grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and Parliamentary Secretary in the Delhi government Adarsh Shastri unveiled the statue of his grandfather in the Desh Bhagat Park at Ghal Kalan village in Moga district today.

Moga, January 12

Grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and Parliamentary Secretary in the Delhi government Adarsh Shastri unveiled the statue of his grandfather in the Desh Bhagat Park at Ghal Kalan village in Moga district today.

Also a senior Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader, he was accompanied by party’s Moga candidate Ramesh Grover and other local volunteers.

The AAP leaders also paid floral tributes to the former PM who died on January 11, 1966, at Tashkent in the erstwhile Soviet Union.

Addressing a gathering, the AAP leader reminded the people of his grandfather’s association with Mahatma Gandhi and the ‘satyagraha’ movement to free the country from the clutches of the British empire.

He said his grandfather gave the slogan “Jai jawan, jai kisan” and was instrumental in bringing reforms in the agriculture sector to increase the socio-economic condition of the farmers, which later led to the green revolution.

The statue of Lal Bahadur Shastri has been made by famous artist Manjit Singh Gill who has also constructed this park having the statues of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Lala Lajpat Rai, Subhas Chandra Bose, Chander Shekhar Azad, Kartar Singh Sarabha and others. Later, the visiting AAP leader interacted with a section of party volunteers, but he did not openly campaign for the party candidate.
