Chief Minister Harish Rawat has written a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav seeking his intervention in the murder of a Tehri Garhwal native at Meerut. Activists of the Delhi-based Foundation for Indian Integration and Rights met Chief Minister Harish Rawat and sought his help and demanded reopening of the Maqbool murder case. They said the state government should take up the matter with the Akhilesh Yadav government to solve the murder mystery.

The activists led by human rights activist Khateeja Sheikh Ahmed apprised Harish Rawat that Maqbool, a resident of Sunar village in Tehri Garhwal district, had left Pune on April 14 this year for his native place but could not reach home. She said Maqbool’s body was found after two days in Partapur, Bhud Baral, Meerut . His belongings were missing from the spot.

Khateeja alleged that the Partapur police falsely made it an accident case though Maqbool was poisoned to death. “An FIR was registered at the Hazrat Nizammudin Railway police station on April 18,” she said. She said the railway station CCTV footage confirmed that Maqbool got off from the train at New Delhi and his cell phone was found with Ehsaan, a resident of Bhaisali, Meerut, after a gap of around 20 days.

Surendra Aggarwal, media adviser to Chief minister Harish Rawat, said the state government would take up the case with the UP government. The deceased was survived by his wife and three daughters.
