Security was beefed up across the state today in the wake of a terror attack in Gurdaspur district in Punjab. Police patrolling around vital installations, including railway stations, ISBTs and places of tourist interest like the banks of the Ganga in Haridwar and Rishikesh, have also been stepped up.

DGP BS Sidhu said all police stations had been put on high alert and officials had been asked to keep a vigil at entry and exit points that fall on the border with neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. Officials had been asked to keep a tab on dubious movements in public places.

As the state abounds in places of tourist and religious interest, security had also been beefed up along the famous Har-ki-Pauri and other ghats of the Ganga in Haridwar and Rishikesh, he said. The DGP said SSPs and SPs had been asked to increase patrolling in their respective districts.

He said intelligence officials had been instructed to remain alert. Special focus was being laid on Udham Singh Nagar and Champawat districts, which share international boundaries with Nepal. He said security measures had been stepped along the Char Dham route

In Dehrdaun, SSP Pushpak has deployed additional police force at all important places. SHOs were told to start intense checking at inns and hotels of the city.

The SSP said the checking of private and commercial vehicles had started to ensure security to residents. Luggage of passengers was being checked at ISBT and railway station.

Chief Minster Harish Rawat and Governor KK Paul have condemned the terror attack in Gurdaspur. They prayed for the peace of the departed souls. The CM termed the incident as a coward act of terrorists. He instructed DGP BS Sidhu to beef up security across the state.
