KULLU: Electricity was restored in Manali town yesterday around 10 pm, much to the relief of the hoteliers as well as tourists in the region.

Kullu, January 9

Electricity was restored in Manali town yesterday around 10 pm, much to the relief of the hoteliers as well as tourists in the region. Stating this today, Sub Divisional Magistrate Manali H R Bairwa said here today that the electricity was snapped on Friday night because of heavy snowfall in the area.

Dozens of villages were still reeling under darkness in Kullu-Manali since Friday and the electricity department was struggling hard to restore power supply. A majority of hotels in the town have no electricity back-up system.

Hoteliers Association president Kullu-Manali Gajender Thakur stated, “We heaved a sigh of relief today because a majority of tourists checked out from hotels immediately, when the Kullu-Manali road was thrown open for vehicular traffic yesterday.

“There was no warm water for bathing in hotels and no heater in the bone-chilling cold, which forced tourists to pack up”, the Hoteliers Association president Kullu-Manali Gajender Thakur added. — OC
