IAS officers need to work with integrity, says CM

Chief Minister Harish Rawat today said it was imperative for IAS officers to work with honesty and integrity at every level of the government. There was a need for the officers working in the field to gain additional knowledge with the use of new technology and also instil confidence among their subordinates for better working environment.

He stated this while addressing IAS officers during the 116th IAS training programme at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie today.

Rawat emphasised on the fact that the officers should not delay development works in the name of archaic procedures and guidelines and should work without delay in the delivery system so that the common man receives the benefit of various programmes.

He appealed to the officers to plan for the betterment of the people. Rawat said that the time was of utmost importance while dealing with the government projects and the IAS officers should devise such plans that it cut on the delay and bring relief to the needy.

He said the freedom fighters of the country, including Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, had thought of civil services as a delivery mechanism for the government programmes and officers should work keeping that in mind.

The Chief Minister said the offcers were bound by laws and guidelines and they should work by finding a balance and work accordingly, keeping the people’s interest in mind.

He said at the state level the officers should focus on law and order and development and should also think of improving the basic facilities in their areas of work.

Speaking about the state, he said that the service delivery mechanism was complex, hence the officers have been directed to visit the remotest villages of the state to provide relief to the poorest of the poor.

He also said that the people are still struggling for basic amenities such as drinking water, electricity, domestic gas, etc and the officers should ensure that these basic needs are fulfilled without any struggle to the people.

He said that the state government was trying to bring in more transparency through speeding the computerisation process in the government.

He also said that IAS officers should work without considering any pressure keeping the interest of the people in mind.

He said the IAS officers should involve the district level officers in more proactive manner while dealing with district programmes for a better delivery system.

The IAS trainee officers posed several questions to the Chief Minister on the occasion. He presented citations and awards to the participating IAS trainees.

The director of the academy, Rajiv Kapoor, deputy director Jayant Singh, and Jaspeet Talwar were also present.
