Jammu, March 28

With an aim to provide real-time experience of high-speed Internet network in the state, Idea Cellular today launched its 4G services in Jammu.

In its first phase, the company is currently providing 4G services in 10 towns of the Jammu region and will expand it to other areas later.

Idea 4G services will cover 20 towns, including the major cities of Jammu, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Kathua and Samba, by June 2017.

Speaking at the launch, Rajat Mukherjee, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Idea Cellular, said, “Idea has consistently invested in expansion of the network to become a pan-India wireless broadband operator, readying our 200 million customers for the digital era. Over the last one year, Idea has more than doubled its mobile broadband network on the 4G/3G platform, which now covers over 50 per cent of the country’s population.”

Idea’s mobile broadband data services are currently available to nearly 500 million people across nearly 1,00,000 towns and villages in the country.

Replying to a query as why Idea had launched the 4G services on its own after merger with Vodafone, Mukherjee said, “Vodafone’s merger with Idea will still take over a year and till that time we are competitors in the market. Till the time, the merger is not done completely, we will be working separately.”

Sudhir Pradhan, Chief Operating Officer, Punjab, HP and J&K, Idea Cellular, said, “We are happy to launch our world-class, high-speed 4G services for our customers in Jammu, catering to their ever-growing infotainment needs. Idea 4G services will be further expanded to cover 20 key towns by June-end.”

He assured customers that once they switch over to Idea, they would get a new experience. “We are the youngest cellular company in the country but our growth is ever-increasing. We will be offering good speed and affordable plans to customers like other competitors,” he added.
