CHANDIGARH: The brain sample of the dog that bit 12 residents in Mauli Jagran on Friday was found positive for rabies in a lab test conducted at the Kasauli-based Central Research Institute (CRI) today.

The brain sample of the dog that bit 12 residents in Mauli Jagran on Friday was found positive for rabies in a lab test conducted at the Kasauli-based Central Research Institute (CRI) today.

This is the second positive report for rabies in the city within a week. On April 22, a stray dog had attacked 11 persons in Sector 15 and died later. It also tested positive for rabies.

Confirming the development, MC Joint Commissioner Manoj Khatri said the report was positive and directions were issued accordingly to the officials to help victims.

A team of doctors from the UT Administration also visited the Adarsh Mohalla in Mauli Jagran, where residents were attacked by the stray dog, which died later.

Meanwhile, the staff of the MC MOH wing also caught the stray dogs in the locality that had come in contact with the rabid dog.

A senior official of the UT Administration said now they would ensure that the victims would receive their treatment on May 1, when their next dose of injection was due. The victims were advised to visit anti-rabies clinic in Sectors 19 and 38 for further treatment, he said.

7 more cases in P’kula

Seven more persons fell victim to stray dogs in Panchkula on Saturday. Among the seven who reached the Civil Hospital on Saturday, three were children. None of the dog-bite cases that reached the hospital for treatment were serious, said the hospital authorities.

9 bitten by stray dogs in Mohali

Nine new dog-bite cases were reported from the Civil Hospital here on Saturday. Two of the victims were children. According to information available from the hospital, the victims came from Mohali, Kharar, Chandigarh while one case was from Panchkula. The victims were Devinder (22) from Dhanas, Chandigarh, Kamaljeet Singh (47) from Sector 68, Mohali, Lakshmi Kumari (3) from Sector 52, Chandigarh, Mangal (33 ) from Sector 41, Chandigarh, Akash (22) from Maloya, Chandigarh, Bhavna (38) from Kharar, Renu Garg (36) and Kuldeep Singh (11), both from Mundi Kharar, and Deepika (26) from Sector 11, Panchkula.
