Looted ornaments recovered, handed over to owner

KALKA:The police have recovered gold and silver ornaments looted from the jewellery shop of Jagdish Raj of Kalka on July 5.

The police have recovered gold and silver ornaments looted from the jewellery shop of Jagdish Raj of Kalka on July 5. The robbers had also murdered Jagdish Raj’s  son Subhanshu Verma, who was asleep in the shop.

Anil Dhawan, DCP, Panchkula, while interacting with media persons during a press conference at the Kalka ACP office, said the police had recovered 900 gm of gold and 9 kg of silver ornaments worth an estimated Rs 40 lakh from the robbers in Delhi. 

He said some cash, coins and the iron rod used in the murder of Subhanshu had also been recovered from their possession. An i-Phone has also been recovered. The recovered jewellery was handed over to Jagdish Raj. The recovery has been made in different phases from different accused on the basis of investigations. Mohammed Abid had transferred Rs 75,000 in the account of his son Sajid. The bank account has been seized and the said amount will soon be recovered.

The police had arrested all the accused in the case, including the two main accused, Iqbal Ahmed and Mohammed Abid, Jagdish (driver), Sajid, son of Mohammed Abid, Nasima, wife of Mohammed Abid and Ram Gopal, a jeweller from Delhi. The accused were sent to judicial custody.

Sajid was arrested today from the Chandimandir railway station and presented in a court at Kalka. He was remanded in two-day police custody. Dhawan said the robbers belonged to an inter-state gang.  The gang is said to be involved in crimes at Faridabad, Rewari, Karnal and Ghaziabad. Mohammed Abid was the kingpin and mastermind of the gang. He used to take more share of the loot and the rest was divided among the others. The driver was paid money on the basis of per trip.

Iqbal Ahmed and Mohhammed Abid had come to Kalka on July 3 to commit the robbery but returned due to heavy rain and stayed at 

a hotel in Darua, near Chandigarh. They came back again on July 5 and committed the crime.
