Jind, July 25

Monsoon hit the state many days back and inundated many areas of Jind but the administration is yet to complete the cleaning and desilting of drains, the deadline for which was June 15.

DC Ajit Balaji Joshi has directed all SDMs to complete the work within a week.

Sources said he had told the officers concerned in May to do the needful on this count and meet the deadline. He then proceeded on departmental training from June 1 and after joining back found the de-silting and cleaning dissatisfactory.

“Many drains have not been desilted properly. I have directed all SDMs to complete the pending work and submit a status report. We will take action against erring officials, he warned.

There are around 22 drains and 54 minor water channels in the district.

Julana MLA Parminder Dhull alleged not a single drain in his area has been de-silted properly. “Due to this, drains do not have the required capacity to carry rain water. If case of floods, who would be responsible ?, he questioned.

Jind SDM Yogesh Mehta today visited Padan-Bans, Gatauli-Karela, Kalwa-Kinana and some other drains and directed the officials to accelerate the work.

We would block the payment of the contractor if he failed to complete the work in time, he added.
