Normal water supply in city from today

The city will get normal water supply from tomorrow as the MC made the header and all eight motors functional at the Kajauli Waterworks this evening. NP Sharma, Chief Engineer of the MC, said city residents would get normal water supply from tomorrow.

Water was supplied this evening with additional pressure, providing relief to city residents.

Earlier in the day, residents of several sectors faced a shortage of water due to low water pressure. The problem was more acute in Sectors 1 to 12. The MC sent water tankers to these areas.

Residents of southern sectors, which are thickly populated and have a large number of flats, also suffered due to low water pressure.

Satish Sharma, who lives on the third floor of a housing society, said there was no water supply today.

Another resident said they had to buy mineral water for drinking. The supply was restored only for a few hours in the morning as the department was able to make only one motor functional till last evening. The delivery header of the Kajauli Waterworks burst around 5 am yesterday due to power failure. The water flooded the two pump houses, as a result of which all eight motors installed there stopped functioning.

The pressure was so low today that it did not reach overhead tanks and upper floors. MC officials said over 800 water tankers, including private, were pressed into service today to supply water to the residents.

Private tankers were arranged on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner. While the services of MC tankers  were provided free of cost, owners of private tankers  had a field day as they  charged residents   for it.

Mayor Arun Sood who, along with officers, visited the Kajauli Waterworks, said a new  comprehensive  plan for the management of water supply  from Kajauli   would be implemented  to ensure that  such  incidents did not reoccur. He said he would take up the issue  of providing a hotline  for power connection to Kajauli  with the Punjab Government.
