The Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) today alleged that attempts were being made to hush up the infamous Khour rape case, which had highlighted the exploitation of a poor girl by a Station House Officer (SHO).

Sabha chairman Gulchain Singh Charak has warned that if the police official involved in the rape of the women at the Khour block in Akhnoor is released due to political pressure, people of Jammu will launch an agitation.

“The sabha took a detailed review of the rape case and decided to press for the demand of penalising the culprits irrespective of their political or other connections by giving them punishment as per law,” Charak said.

He also discussed the plight of family of Chamail Singh who died in a Pakistani jail a few years back and expressed his dismay that his family had not received any monetary help.

Charak said the sabha had also noticed the issue of restoration and conservation of Mubarak Mandi Complex with great concern as there was no visible progress in the project despite repeated appeals by the DSS.

“We urge the government to take up the restoration work before ensuing rainy season. We also stressed for the proper development and maintenance of Jeo Pota complex, Akhnoor — the most important heritage of this state,” he said.
