Amid rising tension along the Indo-Pak border, a Punjabi song appealing to the hostile neighbours not to resort to war has become an instant hit on YouTube and Facebook.

The song has been written by Matt Sheron, an Army man from Sangrur district, and sung by a police constable, Kuldip Singh from Gobindgarh Jaijian village near Sunam in Sangrur.

The title of the song is:

Hind waleo, Pak waleo harre lario na;
.

udhar meri nani rou, edhar meri maa;
.
charde vich Harmander vasda,

.
lehnde vich Nankana;

.
dua karo ardas karo koi varat jave na bhana

(The lyricist urges people to hold prayers so that nothing untoward happens between the two countries).

Kuldip Singh, who has taken up singing as a hobby, was invited by the Punjabi Sahit Akademi, Ludhiana, and Prof Mohan Singh Foundation to a function to sing the song. He was honoured with a set of books.

Kuldip Singh said he had been receiving encouraging comments for the song. It was not only liked by Punjabis in India, the UK, Canada, America, but also in Pakistan.

“We have got positive comments from Pakistanis on the Facebook page of Bhagwant Mann and other singers, who have shared the song,” he said. Kuldip Singh is attached with the Sangrur MP’s security.

Punjabi writer Gurbhajan Gill said: “The song has been sung passionately. It is a prayer for peace between the two nations.” He said most people wanted peace and harmonious relations between the two countries since no one gained from war.
