Government Senior Secondary School at Shahpur here has become one of a half a dozen government senior secondary schools in the state to go online, taking precedence over several private and government schools in the district.

The website of the school (www.gsssshahpur.com ) was launched by Kewal Singh Pathania, Vice-Chairman, State Forest Development Corporation, yesterday and dedicated the website to students, their parents and teachers of the school.

Pathania said in the era of Information Technology such innovative efforts by schools was a step towards e-governance, and would help bring dynamism and qualitative changes in day-to-day teaching learning activities in schools.

RK Parashar, principal of the school, said the website had been designed with a view to keeping students and their parents updated on school activities.

He said the home work assigned to students, their wilful absence or truancy and general deportment during school hours and their academic progress would be posted on the school website and simultaneously an SMS would be flashed on their parent’s mobile phones.

Consequently, for fear of transparency, students would regularly attend classes, would not bunk classes and would refrain from indulging in mischief and indiscipline, he claimed.

He said mostly parents were not able to visit schools to know about the progress of their wards. As a result, communication gap between the parents and the school administration remained a matter of concern with students not getting serious towards their studies.
