Six RO plants to take care of contaminated water in city

LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has issued work orders for the installation of six RO plants in various parts of the city.

The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has issued work orders for the installation of six RO plants in various parts of the city.

The RO plants have to be installed in those areas, where there is acute problem of water contamination.

The agency will install plants and maintain these for seven years. The work has been allotted to Hi-Tech Sweet Water Technology Private Limited. The total cost of project is Rs 63.60 lakh. One RO will have the capacity of 2,000 litre water per hour. People will have to shell out 15 paise per litre in the form of maintenance cost and electricity dues to the agency for getting treated water.

Superintendent Engineer of Operation and Maintenance Cell, Kamlesh Bansal, said total nine ROs were to be installed as work orders for three were issued earlier and now they had issued orders for six more  ROs. He said they would now finalise locations for installation in a day or so.

Meanwhile, MC Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said work orders have been issued to the firm after completing all formalities and installation procedure would begin shortly so that public get RO water. 

The proposal to install ROs was made in August 2013, but it took a long time for the department to get technical approvals for its implementation.
