The Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, would provide religious literature in English and Punjabi to the 136 Sikh prisoners in the UK to make them aware about Sikh values, history and culture, said Vice-Chancellor Gurmohan Singh Walia. He said the move would go a long way in reforming them.

He said during his visit to the UK, the Sikh community of England, led by Gagandeep Singh, Sikh Chaplaincy Service, UK, had talked to him about these prisoners. He said the university would provide Nitnem Gutkas, Sikh history books, biographies of Sikh Gurus and books related to Sikh values and ethics.

He said after the experiment in the UK prisons, the said material would also be provided to the prisoners in the state after approval from the state government. After getting the permission, the university would arrange extension lectures by university professors for prisoners on values and ethics, which would help in their rehabilitation.

He said that the vision of the university was the welfare of humanity and spreading teachings of Guru Granth Sahib.

He said the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib were relevant even in today’s world and could help solve various problems.
