In all, 67,838 consumers out of 94,000 eligible ones in the district have cleared their electricity dues under the bill settlement scheme. They have deposited Rs17.83 crore after Rs163.62 crore was waived.

The last date to clear the dues was January 31.

Deputy Commissioner Dharamvir Singh told this to the media here on Tuesday. “The electricity board has provided Rs51 lakh in subsidy to consumers after Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced Rs2 per unit reduction in power tariff during the Assembly session in October last year,” he said.

He exhorted officials of several departments to work together and provide citizens with basic amenities. “I will visit the town and take steps to resolve people’s problems,” Singh said.

The DC further said all damaged roads would be repaired on a war footing after the weather improved. The Kaithal-Ambala road stretch from Titram Chowk to Delhi Public School will be repaired for Rs14 crore. A proposal in this regard has been forwarded to the Centre as the expenditure will be borne by the NHAI.”

The DC asked MC officials to carry an anti-encroachment drive at least twice a month, take steps to desilt choked nullahs along the roads and repair Lala Lajpat Rai Complex.
