The crime branch of the local police has nabbed a 22-year-old BCom student for fraudulently withdrawing money from ATMs.

Mohammed Altaf from Nuh district is a student of a college here.

Revealing his modus operandi, the police said the accused would switch off the power supply to the ATM machine as soon as it started dispersing money. This way, the machine could not record the transaction despite disbursement. The accused told the police he had withdrawn money by this method nine to 10 times over a couple of years.

“He was nabbed from a bank on Wednesday when he complained to bank officials that he was unable to withdraw money,” said Sube Singh, public relations officer of the police department.

A case under Sections 379 (theft) and 420 (cheating and dishonesty) of the IPC has been registered against him and an unidentified accused.
