Three Kurukshetra residents have died due to swine flu infection in August.

SK Nain, Civil Surgeon, told The Tribune here today that 12 suspected cases were reported, of which five were diagnosed positive for H1N1 in the last one month.

Two patients died at PGI, Chandigarh, while another passed away during treatment at PGI, Rohtak.

Nain said sudden change of weather was responsible for spurt in the swine flu cases. Only one patient was diagnosed positive for dengue in the last one month, he said.

The Civil Surgeon said the Health Department had adequate arrangements for the treatment of patients suffering from swine flu in the state.

A sufficient stock of Tamiflu medicine was available at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, he said.

Nain said an advisory had been issued to all hospitals to take immediate action when a patient was suspected of being infected with swine flu.

Dr Sudesh Sahota, District Malaria Officer, said awareness drives had been conducted in which people were being informed about coughing etiquettes, maintaining physical distance from suspected or infected patients and reporting if there were any influenza-like symptoms.
