Faridabad, September 25

Despite heavy rainfall, the threat of vector-borne diseases of dengue and malaria has been weak in the district.

Two cases of dengue and 113 cases of malaria have surfaced so far. This is claimed to be very low in comparison to the number of cases reported in the earlier years.

Claiming that 161 cases of malaria and 153 cases of dengue had surfaced last year (2017), sources in the Health Department said the cases this time have been several times lower even when the rainy season has been longer.

Dr Ram Bhagat, District Malaria Officer, said that besides putting gambuzia fish, which eats up mosquito larvae, into 150 ponds and open water bodies, 39 teams having 200 workers had been deputed for house-to-house survey to ensure that there was no stagnation of water in and around residential areas.

He said teams had also been deputed in some of the very sensitive and sensitive areas like Mohna village from where the majority of cases of malaria are reported every year.

He said that this time, 52 out of the total 113 cases of malaria were reported from this village only. “Special anti-mosquito spray and fogging has been carried out in each and every house of Mohna village and its neighbourhood in the past week,” he said.
